A quick change in life's direction, Again!
I love it like that!
For those whom haven't heard, we are on the move again. Back to Derby! Yah can't keep us out of the Kimberley! We swum in the Fitzroy River 20+ years ago, and it's been drawing us back time and time again ever since.
How quickly our life has changed again. What was meant to be a short 3 week holiday in Derby, to renovate house and visit friends, quickly changed our life paths yet again. I love the freedom of our lifestyle, that both of us are happy to just drop everything at any given time and move forward in a new direction. To some it came as a sudden shock that we would move on so fast, after only 2.5 years in Exmouth. To others, those whom have known us longer, it was no surprise, the writing was on the walls...2 years is a long time for us to do anything!
The sign that made our souls sing! |
Driving north we were all talk about getting as many renovations finished in our house during the first week so we would have some fishing time before leaving. As soon as we entered into the Kimberley region something changed, it was like a weight being lifted, I swear Johnno's face physically changed!! The corner of his month turned up, his eyes lifted, his forehead softened. We were back in Wait-Awhile country, no rush now, slow down, go fishing, worry about the renovations later...so we did just that, went fishing! Johnno caught his first Barra before we even got back to Derby!
Fitzroy River feels like home! |

Driving back into Derby was such a refreshing feeling, more than just that relaxed 'being on holiday' feeling, its a true Kimberley relaxed feeling! The land of crocodiles (I've missed them, I do love them!), Barramundi, Cattle and of course the beautiful amazing Boab trees!
On the road home to Derby |
Home, at our house in Derby. Big Boab was there when we brought the house 14 years ago. Small Boab I grow from seed. |
We still went straight into renovation mode, though slightly more relaxed about it now than planned. It didn't take us long before we had to visit some of the local businesses for materials and equipment. Word got out quickly we were back in town, and Derby turned on the love. I always tell people how amazing the Derby township is, the people! It's such a friendly supportive community. Straight away we were offered help, dinner invites, and then...the job offers! That was the game changer...well actually swimming in the May River was!
May River still flowing after the amazing wet season. |
They say, once you have swum in the Fitzroy River, it will keep drawing you back. It's true! But I reckon the May has the same effect! It's one of my favourite spots in the world! Not only because of the beautiful fresh water swimming holes, but further down by the mouth is our favourite Barramundi fishing holes!
After two days of painting and renovation we drove to the river for a relaxing swim (no more rushing remember!). We spent the afternoon talking about all the feelings we had over the last few days, and the offers that had come up since. We both knew what was on our minds, it was just a matter of who was going to be the first to say it...'We should move back here'!! There it was out there, once spoken it was actions stations.
Once we make up our minds about something it's always full steam ahead. We drove back into town planning how we would take this next step, what to do about Exmouth house and jobs?
True to our spontaneous lives, that all changed instantly as well. We were preparing to go to friends for dinner/drunkardness, and talk about work in Derby, when the phone rang. Within half an hour all plans had changed again, and we were packing the car for a mad drive back to Exmouth (after our fun night with friends 😆).
Everything full into place so perfectly that one knows it was just meant to be. No resistance, everything just happened, and kept happening. Two days later Johnno was on the plan to Christmas Island for a 3 week shut down, so this turned into 5 weeks, but it's still good timing! While I was left in Exmouth to pack and clean house, and then put it on the market!
I had 3 weeks to do this, because then my family was turning up. I did say perfect timing didn't I! I handed in my notice at work, so I would finish the day they arrived. Meaning a two week holiday for me with my family...Johnno should have been here if he did 3 weeks, but at all happened as it was meant to, because he would not have fit in the car anyway. 👀
Lucky there was only 5 of us, we could take one car everywhere. Sometimes we had to take a 'trailer' for all the tackle and chairs though. |
Plenty of beach time with my family every day for two weeks! |
My brother caught an awesome Spango off the beach! |
Daddio had a fun day catching dozens of these trevalley. |
Plenty of fish caught off the beach, while we all hung out with picnic lunch. |
Oh and of course, I can't miss this one out, it is MY Fishing Blog after all...
My big Bustard caught off Learmonth Jetty. Quick photo then released to impress other tourists for years to come. |
So what now, where are we up to?
The family left a couple of days ago, I've been flat out cleaning. Everywhere I look there is more to clean and pack. Today I pack up my computer, so no more Blogging for a couple of weeks. Next Blog will be from Derby (with photos of MY barramundi!).
Johnno is home in two more sleeps! Then the mad rush to pack his shed (I didn't dare), and start the long days of driving back and forth to get all our stuff and boat to Derby, before we start work 4th of July!!
