A Perfect Day in Paradise!

What is a typical day at Qoundong Point for us?

1st of May: Very calm day at Quondong Point, very different from today!
We have been very lucky, as yet we have had most of the Point and the beach to ourselves.  We got here early in the season for this reason, anticipating the hordes of caravans soon to arrive.    Campers have come and gone, without us even getting to talk to them.  Yesterday another camper trailer set up camp, giving us the impression they could also be here for a while, nice set up!  We seen them swimming and fishing yesterday.  Again this morning fishing, swimming, fishing.  Once the tide went out and we were condensed to a much smaller beach area, it became apparent, to all of us, that it was time to for a chat.  We were in the middle of small talk when John (not Johnno), said ‘So what’s the routine here then’.  Which got us talking, and me dreaming up my next Blog:

A Typical day at Quondong Point:

Now that it’s cooler in the morning we have the  window shutters/curtains closed at night, so we get to sleep in that little bit longer.  We still wake before the sun, we just lay there waiting for it to raise it’s sleepy self first!  The side blind is still open, so we can watch the changing of the sky colours.  Chance’s of getting a photo of the amazing morning sky is still slim at the moment, due to the cool morning air, mozzies outside and my lazy holiday mode!

Usually as day light breaks, the dogs start getting restless.  We have already had one watery shit in the tent, which took me all day to clean up, making me very weary of the possibility of this happening again.   So as soon as the dogs start pacing, I’m up…this seems to be getting earlier and earlier!

I put the kettle on, by the time coffee is made Johnno is up and we have our morning shower (brushing our teeth is about the extent of it!).  Reading our book while drinking our coffee was becoming a slow peaceful routine to start the day, but the dogs have started changing that to ‘schmacko’ time!   At home Puppy was learning to howl for treats.  He hasn’t been doing it since we left Derby, until the last few mornings, which now that he has remembered he gets morning treats for morning howling, of course is very quickly becoming routine while we drink our morning ‘not so peaceful’ coffee’s, and try to read our books.
Morning Puppy Time!
We have porridge for breakfast every morning!  We never eat it at home, not sure if that is due to time or effort.  Today I was thinking about how everything seems to taste so much nicer when you are having it on the beach!  Last night we had Bluebone and Baked Beans for tea, I’d never have beans with fish at home, yet it is the perfect combination when camping!

The tide predicts what we do after breakfast, if it’s not time for fishing we will take the dishes to wash in the sea, have a swim (our morning wash), and play with the dogs on the beach.  Just when you think there is a bit of a routine here, everything change’s again.  I’ve said in an earlier post how everyday, even when they are the same turn out differently, something different happens every day.

Yesterday after breakfast the tide was up to the rock, so we went fishing straight away.  Two bluebone later we were back at the tent before mid-day.
Fishing off the rock yesterday, note how calm it is!

One of the two Bluebone Johnno caught yesterday.
Today even thought there was not even enough breeze to blow away the mozzies, and the sky was crystal clear, the sea was much rougher than normal.  Beautiful big waves rolling onto our normally calm flat beach.  A cyclone has just past Exmouth (waiting for word on our house that got damaged only 7 weeks ago from the last cyclone), but I’m not sure how much effect that would have on the sea all the way up here.  There seems to be lots of rain at Port Hedland and towards Derby, so obviously something is going on out to sea.  What ever is going on out there, we are loving it here…at the moment!  Beautiful day, just hoping it stays that way!

Even though wave’s make it hard to fish the Quondong Point rock, and we have never seen it this wavy, we still thought we would head over for a fish, since we had collect crabs for bait yesterday afternoon, may as well use them.  It was too rough!  Couldn’t feel the bites, and kept getting stuck in the rocks.  Once the waves started coming over the rock, we called it quits!
Johnno was standing at front of the rock, had to run when seen big wave coming.
Yesterday mid-day, after filleting fish, we went snorkelling off the rock, it was such a beautiful clear day.  Today was totally the opposite, we went surfing in the waves.  Johnno brought an underwater housing for his cool little G1X camera, that was heaps of fun trying to ‘get the shot’ of waves that I love so much.  They weren’t quiet huge hawian pipe waves, but I still got some cool shots anyway.  Johnno did some recording on his GoPro, so stay tuned for a snorkelling and wave jumping clip coming soon.
Loving the waterproof housing Johnno brought!!

Johnno playing in the unusual for here big waves!  Loved it!
We haven’t done anything physical for ages, so jumping around in the waves wore me out!  Lucky our afternoon routine is reading our books while drinking coffee.  So after a whole packet of cream cheese with chives and crackers for lunch, It was reading time!!  I’m reading Tim Flannery’s ‘Here On Earth’ about the evolution of our planet and all that lives on it, including us.  It’s fascinating!  Great place to read it, on the beach over looking the beauty that has been created.

After a couple of chapters, falling asleep several times, and a couple of cups of coffee, I thought I’d better stand up, stretch my legs.  So we took Charlie for a game of fetch on the beach.  Two throws and she was done, that was fine by us! Hahaha, time to get back to camp for some more reading.  Johnno is on his 6th Bourne book, you know the Jason Bourne series, he used to watch the movies in the weekends, so not too much has changed really ;)  It is the weekend, you can tell, few families spread out around the beaches, and more cars driving in and out than usual.
Action shot!  Note the ball at very top of photo!

Crazy Charlie

I’m typing instead of reading now.  Shortly I’ll sort some photos to go on here.  By then the sun will be setting so I’ll turn off the computer for a while, have a couple of coldies with Johnno, talk about who knows what.  We didn’t need to collect crabs this afternoon, because we didn’t use the ones we got yesterday.  By the look of the sea the fishing will not be that great tomorrow either, but it’s Sunday (Broomie day), so we will most likely just hang out at our camp.  Oh we might get a visitor!!  Hope so, cause he is bringing beer!  If not then we are dry, as of tomorrow.  So I’m off now to enjoy my possible last beer for a few days.

After dark I’ll turn on the internet to post this with photos.  Then I’ll cook dinner, not sure what yet, maybe just baked beans, so then I can start on making my Snorkelling & Wave jumping YouTube Clip!

Then we will fall asleep listening to the waves, cause they are extra loud at the moment!  Till we wake just before the sun tomorrow and wait to see what that day holds; because every day is different here, even when they are the same.

Unusual wavy beach today!  Loving it here!
