Off to a new paradise!
The joy of having no plans; That was always the plan!
Sunday morning started off as any other day here at Quondong Point = Coffee then Porridge. We don’t plan any fishing on Sunday’s, encase there are heaps of Broomie’s out. It’s so close to town, makes for an easy day out for them. We usually have a day reading and eating at camp. However, we had bait in the fridge, and the tide was coming up with no-one fishing the rock, how could we not go (big waves the day before made it hard for fishing so we didn’t get any bluebone then). Waves weren’t so big, so in went the hand line, took a while, bites weren’t as many as usual, but in the end we had 2 bluebone ready to fillet. Frank, an old falla (70) who has been camping here for a while, came over for his morning chat. Must be hard camping on your own for so long, got to talk to people when you can. He might be heading up Derby way soon, I told him to head to the Sporties Club on a Friday night, he wants to meet some nice ladies!
We were home (camp is now home, where ever it is!) by high tide, great time for swimming and doing the dishes. I’d kept one of the bluebone we caught for our mate from Broome we thought was coming out, but got a message from him that he was still working. So while swimming we started talking about what to do with the rest of the day now that we wouldn’t be sitting around drinking beer talking shit with our old mate. How funny life is! We were meant to be sitting around drinking beer and talking shit that day for sure! Got back to camp and while I was getting dried off (stark naked, bare ass, in the middle of the drive way), Frank pulls up!! ‘Is it too early for a beer yet’ he shouts out with a wicked smile, what a man!!! He knew we had no beer!! I’d told him the day before, but hadn’t told him our mate was meant to be coming out. So he’d come with beer for US!! Go Frank!!! We sat talking shit for hours, drinking Franks beer, he was heading back to Broome the next day, and didn’t like to take beer back into town!! Like his thinking!! As you can imagine, 70 years of travelling Australia, truck driving, and working on mines, he had lots of stories to tell!
As the afternoon wore on, Frank staggered off, with a fillet of bluebone from our fridge, he seems happy with the exchange…or just plain happy!
We thought it would be a great idea, with our afternoon beer buzz on, to go for a walk around the rock pools. While talking to Frank, who had been at James Price Point (just a few more km up this road), we had decided we would head up that way soon. While on our walk we decided NOW! Well go to Broome for more supplies and water, then the next day off to JPP! We still collected bait…beer head, thought we would go fishing before driving into broome in the morning??
We had a wonderful walk around the rock pools. Because we walked a different way, with deeper pools (crabs are hard to catch in the deep water, we usually stick to the rocks), Charlie discovered FISH live in the pools!! Oh Boy!! She was getting so good, we were at the stage of being able to make her wait behind us while walking the rocks, I’m not sure that will happen any more! So she is chasing the fish around the pools, and I’m like, ‘what was that, that was a bit bigger than usual’. We ALL (Johnno, me, Charlie and Pup) run over to the rock, seen the fish take off, ALL chased it! I dropped the bait bucket, and grabbed the camera. As we run the fish started for the shallower water, all right, we’ve got it cornered. Lots of jumping around, laughing, barking, more jumping, looking confused, till finally Johnno was able to grab it! A little Bluebone! How cool is that to find in a rock pool!

Bluebone caught in rock pool, alot of people would have eat this, it's lucky we been catching plenty of bigger ones! |
John released fish; where did it go? |
By the time we staggered home tired because our afternoon beers were wearing off, we didn’t have much more energy to do anything of anything. We had planned to start packing, cook dinner, blah blah blah…I went to bed as the sun was setting!
We were up early in the morning, ready for the next new adventure…oh wait, we still have to clean up from this one. Not being sure how the Broome Vet worked (in Derby you just rock up without an appointment), we thought it best to call early in the morning before driving into town, that gave us till 8am when the vet opened, to slowly start packing up camp. We had decided days ago that next time we went to Broome we would take Pup to the vet about his leg. He has had a bad leg for a few years. We have taken him to Derby Vet a few times, and Scott has said he would need an X-Ray to know what is wrong with him. So while in Broome, we thought may as well get it X Rayed, because he is limping all the time now….of course when we took him to the vet he was walking like a fucken champion dog, not a limp in sight!
Found 2 centipedes while starting to pack, will be interesting to see what is under the tent tomorrow! |
I went food shopping while Johnno filled up with water (and brought fishing tackle). Still having Charlie in the car, means we can’t do shopping together, we don’t want to leave her in the hot car, but I’m sure this suit Johnno just fine! With the plan to move to James Price Point, which is even further out of town, I brought over 2 weeks worth of food, so we don’t have to come back to town if we don’t need to.
With still a few hours to fill in we got some lunch to take to the beach. Why we thought buying Fish n Chip to eat on a beach would be a good idea, after eating Fresh Fish on our Own Beach for over a month, I don’t know!! But we both thought it was a great idea when we seen the sign…must have been hungry! It was crap! Well not as good as we expected anyway. Charlie liked the fish, she wouldn’t eat the chips, so we feed the seagulls and she chased them off.
After Fish n Chips and a Choc Milk we were both feeling pretty stuffed, in need of a walk!
Broome beaches are so crowded; it's hard to believe we are camped only 50km up the coast and have the place mostly to ourselves! |
