Washing day at the cold smelly camp

Johnsons Baby Shampoo and Talcum Powder!

Tide's up, that means it's time for a bath!
Cold windy mornings and neap tides (water doesn't come into the lagoon in front of our camp), means we haven’t been swimming much, if at all for the last few days.
Pup worked out this morning that he can jump onto our bed, which we thought was too high; I didn’t mind too much, he was lovely and warm on the cold morning!

Willie Creek at Neap tide means very little water movement
Seven weeks without a ‘proper’ shower, we haven‘t needed too.  Swimming three times per day, bucket baths, and every now and then the portable shower hooked up, has kept us clean and sweet smelling.  We wash our clothes and dishes in the sea, rinsing in fresh water when needed.  On that note, I’ll just add that we have worn the same clothes now for the full 7 weeks!!  Last weeks trip to Broome was the first use of a washing machine we have had, because I had to get the salt and sand out of the towels, our little buckets just weren’t doing the job with them.  We have two pairs of shorts and two shirts each, that we alternate while the other is drying.

That’s all been working out fine until the cool weather hit us!  With NO swimming for a couple of days we started to realise how important it is to a ‘healthy’ beach bum lifestyle.   Yesterday was the first tide to make it back into our little lagoon.   I posted a photo on facebook of myself, still in my woollen hoodie standing beside the water at 10am, too cold to go in.  I got dared to swim to the other side.  Giving an outright NO to that request, I then started to realise I was going to have to get in.

It’s Sunday today, seemed like a good washing day.  We waited till high tide at 10am, hoping the wind would die down a little, which thankfully it did.  Armed with our new best camping tool: Johnston & Johnston Baby Shampoo, (it soaps up in salt water, and leaves you smelling lovely) we finally braved the coolness, getting in for a quick but well needed wash.
Washing day; all smelling nice again!
Thanks Megan Butt for introducing us to this little gem, along with Talcum Powder for drying off properly, and keeping the sand off once dry, it works a treat.  I’m now feeling like a sweet smelling princess again!
Saturday afternoon fishing at Willie Creek is very popular,
even when there isn't much water.
I love how the internet has made the world so much smaller.  I’ve been talking to an x-Derbyite on line for a few years, once he started watching my YouTube clips and reminiscing about his wonderful times up here.  Currently on a months holiday, he has brought his whole family; wife kids, Dad and Uncle, to experience the wonders of the Kimberley.  Unfortunately it was almost low tide, when he came out to Willie Creek to meet us, so the fishing wasn't as good as the YouTube clips he  had been watching.  Thankfully the lads were still able to get onto some Trevalley fun, and take home a feed of Flathead, they were pretty happy with that.

Sunday morning at the smelly camp; before clean up and washing.
It's a fishing blog after all:
Johnno with one of the million Queenies we have been catching.
I love this photo with his bright yellow fly line.
Puppy is more obsessed with fishing every day!
